Images of the Past--Visions of Today A Juried Art Exhibition
Inspired by images of Nancy Ford Cones
Public Art Show: September 18 to October 3, 2010
Entry Deadline: August 20, 2010
In celebration of its 35th Anniversary, the Greater Loveland Historical Society Museum is hosting a juried art exhibition of original artwork that is based on selected photographs by Nancy Ford Cones.
Nancy Ford Cones (1869-1962) was an internationally recognized photographer. In 1905 this Loveland, Ohio resident entered a contest by Eastman Kodak and received 2nd prize, chosen from over 28,000 entries—a rare feat for a woman at this time. She often used local people and scenes in her pictorial photographs thus documenting early Ohio country life while satisfying an international taste for provincial romantic images. Eastman Kodak, Bausch & Lomb, and other camera manufacturers purchased her rural scenes for major advertising campaigns; many of her photographs appeared on magazine covers such as Country Life in America and Women’s Home Companion.
The Committee has selected the 6 images shown here to feature as an inspiration for creative interpretation by artists in any medium, including 3D. The only limitations are size (download prospectus below) and an identifiable connection to the Cones photograph.
